Israeli rabbi requests court to overturn death penalty law for Palestinian prisoners

ALBAWABA - Israeli lawmaker and reform rabbi, Gilad Kariv, sends a petition to the Supreme Court to overturn the approved law allowing execution of Palestinian prisoners.

Gilad Kariv called the law 'racist and extremist' after it was passed by the Knesset on March 30. He and several NGOs submitted a petition to reverse it.

In addition, Human rights organizations have strongly criticized Israel's parliament for approving a controversial bill that permits the use of the death sentence against Palestinian detainees. This law represents a major change in the nation's legal system.

The law gives military tribunals the power to execute Palestinians found guilty of killing Israelis for alleged nationalist or security-related reasons. 

Israeli politician Itamar Ben-Gvir and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were among the right-wing leaders who voted in favor of the law.
