Dışişleri Bakanı Jose Manuel Albares, İspanya devlet radyosu RNE'ye yaptığı açıklamada, AB-İsrail Ortaklık Anlaşması'nın askıya alınması talebine ilişkin, "Mevkidaşlarımdan İspanyol hükümeti gibi cesur olmalarını ve AB'ye sadık kalmalarını isteyeceğim. Zira hiçbir AB ülkesi, bu düzeyde bir insan hakları ihlalini kabul edemez." dedi. Mevkidaşlarını ikna etmeye çalışacağını ama yarınki toplantıda İsrail ile ortaklık anlaşmasının askıya alınması hususunda herhangi bir karar çıkmayacağının bilincinde olduklarını dile getiren Albares, bunun gerçekleşmesi için AB üyesi ülkelerde oy birliğinin gerektiğini hatırlattı. İsrail'in Gazze, Filistin ve Lübnan'da "açık insan hakları ihlalleri"nde bulunduğuna dikkati çeken Albares, "AB'nin dünyada dengeleyici bir güç olmaya devam etmek ve insan hakları ihlallerine son vermek için elinden geleni yapmayı sürdürmek için İsrail ile ortaklığını askıya alması gerektiğini, aksi takdirde AB'nin de kaybeden olma riskini taşıdığını" savundu. Albares, "AB, bir barış gücüdür. İnsan hakları başta olmak üzere hakların savunucusudur ve AB, sahip olduğu tüm araçlarla bu ruhunu korumalıdır. İspanya'nın uzun zamandır dile getirdiği ve yarın resmiyete dökeceği AB-İsrail Ortaklık Anlaşması'nın askıya alınması talebine mevcut durumda Slovenya ve İrlanda'nın açık şekilde destek verdiği, Almanya başta olmak üzere bazı AB ülkelerinin karşı durduğu biliniyor. İspanya hükümetinde özellikle koalisyonun küçük ortağı Sumar İttifakı, bir yılı aşkın süredir Başbakan Pedro Sanchez'den İsrail ile tüm ilişkileri kesmesini ve AB-İsrail Ortalık Anlaşması'nın sonlandırılmasını talep ediyordu.
