2026BağdatMeclis'te yapılan oylamada Kürdistan Yurtseverler Birliği (KYB) adayı Nizar Amidi 208 oy alırken, Kürdistan Demokrat Partisi (KDP) adayı Fuad Hüseyin 16 oy aldı. Diğer adaylardan Müsenna Emin ise 17, Abdullah Uleyyavi ise 2 oy aldı. Geçersiz oy sayısı da 9 iken hiçbir aday seçilebilmek için üçte iki çoğunluğu sağlayamadı. En yüksek oy alan adaylar arasında ikinci tura geçildi. Irak’ta 2003 sonrası kurulan siyasi denkleme göre cumhurbaşkanı Kürt partilerin adayları arasından seçiliyor. Söz konusu görev için Kürdistan Demokrat Partisi (KDP) mevcut Dışişleri Bakanı Fuad Hüseyin’i aday gösterirken, Kürdistan Yurtseverler Birliği (KYB) de, eski Irak hükümetinde Çevre Bakanlığı yapmış olan Nizar Amidi’yi de aday göstermişti. Söz konusu makam için KDP ve KYB adayı dahil toplam 17 kişi yarışa girmişti. Irak anayasasına göre cumhurbaşkanının görev süresi 4 yıl ve aynı cumhurbaşkanı sadece bir kez daha yeniden seçilebiliyor. Seçilecek cumhurbaşkanı, meclisteki en büyük grubun başbakan adayına hükümeti kurma görevini verecek. Irak’ta parlamento seçimleri 11 Kasım 2025 tarihinde yapılmıştı. Ülkede yaşanan siyasi anlaşmazlıklardan dolayı yeni hükümet henüz kurulamadı. Mevcut hükümet ise "günlük işleri yürütme hükümeti" olarak görevini sürdürüyor.
