PHILADELPHIA — It’s been a controversial, much-debated decision from the start of general manager Daniel Briere’s tenure just about three years ago.The Philadelphia Flyers chose not to descend into a full, tear-it-all-down rebuild, primarily because Briere and team management value icing a competitive team. Getting a young core group into the Stanley Cup playoffs would provide them all with valuable experience, and teach them how to deal with the stresses of what it takes to win at the most important time of year.Growth, both individually and collectively, will follow.
