Indonesia's Mount Dukono volcano erupts as 3 killed after hunt for 20 missing hikers

Three people have been killed after several hikers vanished when a volcano erupted in Indonesia this morning. Mount Dukono spewed ash as high as 10km into the sky while a group of hikers were out exploring the beauty spot. A total of 15 people were evacuated from 1,335m-high mountain, while two porters from the hiking group stayed back to help rescue crews retrieve the bodies of the three people who died, local police chief Erlichson Pasaribu said. Mount Dukono has erupted nearly 200 times since late March, according to the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia . The site is currently flagged as a Level Two out of the agency's three-tier volcano alert system, which suggests increased volcanic unrest and a need for caution. This is a Breaking News story.
