Incredible moment boy, 12, risks dangerous climb to rescue puppy stranded on apartment ledge

Published: 02:26, 21 July 2026 | Updated: 02:27, 21 July 2026 A young boy has been praised for his 'Spider-Man' skills after he bravely scaled a high-rise apartment block to rescue a trapped puppy on NSW's Central Coast.  Kyden, 12, raced to save the dog on Monday morning after it was teetering on a ledge of the new building after escaping through a unit's balcony. In terrifying footage seen by the Daily Mail, Kyden balanced on a thin ledge as he walked towards the frightened dog, gripping the second-floor balcony railing for support. 'I think Kyden was a little nervous but he didn't want to see the puppy hurt, which made it easier for him to jump up and help,' his proud mother Melinda told the Daily Mail. 'The poor pup was distressed and walking along the ledge. 'The puppy was obviously protective and barking at my son at first, so he sat down and calmly moved closer until the pup eventually let him pick it up.' Kyden placed the dog safely back into its unit and barricaded an opening so it couldn't jump back over. Melinda said the family, who live a few minutes away, raced over to help after spotting a picture of the trapped dog on a community Facebook page. 'We haven't heard anything from the owners, but we've had lots of beautiful comments about how brave he was,' she said.  'It's a "proud mum" moment for sure.'  Kyden's heroics were celebrated on social media, with many complimenting the boy on his 'Spider-Man-like' ability to scale the building.  'Your little Spider-Man saved the day,' one person commented. Another said: 'Wow, brave. My dogs are my children and I would be so grateful that a brave man rescued my precious dog.' A third person added: 'What a lovely young boy with such a caring heart.' While many of the comments thanked Kyden for his bravery, others questioned the owners' responsibility in allowing the dog onto the balcony. 'Maybe all animals in units need to not have access to balcony unless supervised,' one person asked. Another said: 'People really shouldn't have dogs in units it's cruel. Especially if they're leaving them on a tiny balcony.'
