‘I’m here for fun!’ Ceuta migrants speak to GB News after 60,000 storm Spanish city

African migrants have spoken to GB News after they stormed the Spanish city of Ceuta.

The Spanish army was deployed to the exclave, found on Morocco’s coast, to deter the “invasion” after 60,000, mostly young men, swam and charged over the border.

Footage of the carnage showed thousands of people, the majority of whom were young men, swimming and scrambling over border protections and charging through the streets.

At least 77 people are known to have died so far in the chaos as they breached the boundaries that separate Ceuta from the rest of the African continent.

On the scene was GB News’s Dougie Beattie, who managed to speak with some of the individuals who had crossed over the border.

“I don't want anything from here... Just for fun,” one young man told him.

“That's all,” Dougie said, asking: “You don't want to stay in the EU?”

“I don't want anything from this place. I am just chilling. I just go here for fun (sic),” the migrant said.

Dougie also spoke to a group of young men, where only one spoke English and translated for the others.

“He wants to change his life (sic),” he said.

Detailing what he heard from migrants off camera in Ceuta, Dougie revealed: “Some of these people do want to stay in the EU. They want to work here.

“They want to get onto the EU mainland. This is pretty much the soft underbelly of the EU now.”

“About 48,000 of these people went back into Morocco last night because the Spanish army was brought in here in great numbers,” he said.

“The whole town here was closed up. No water, no toilets, no hotels.”

Dougie explained the Spanish army’s crackdown had helped clear the majority of the migrants from Ceuta.

“We've seen the Spanish army in these American Humvees, very heavily armed, going in around the town on what I can only describe as thunder runs and bringing back groups of 200 or 300 at a time.”

However, he has experienced the brutal toll of the “invasion”.

“The cost to this town over the last couple of days is absolutely eye-watering amounts of money.

“This is a holiday area. Hotels have been closed. Shops have been closed. Everything has shut down.

“Even the ferry that's bringing us across back and forward. The last cars were going on tonight at 4:30, which means that people will have to leave this island early.”
