Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro directed the father of the accused, Amna Saeed, to furnish surety bonds worth Rs200,000 for her release on bail. The bail petition was filed by the accused’s father. During an earlier hearing, her counsel, Imran Feroz Malik, told the court that Amna Saeed holds a PhD in Philosophy. The husband’s counsel alleged that the accused had assaulted her husband on three separate occasions, leaving visible injury marks on his body. He further claimed that police had recovered an iron rod from her possession and that she had also assaulted their two young daughters. During the hearing, Justice Soomro asked the lawyer, “Is this woman a commando?” The judge then observed that laughter had erupted in the courtroom following the remark. The court also asked the investigating officer whether the accused had undergone a psychiatric evaluation after her arrest. The officer confirmed that no such examination had been conducted. The defence counsel argued that even if the woman had assaulted her husband in anger, she remained the “lordship of the house,” a remark that prompted laughter in the courtroom.
