Most foodies love treating themselves to a Marks & Spencer cookie every now and again, with the new food releases from the retailer often going viral. However, one health influencer has shared the reason why he would 'never' eat them. Tonic Health is a prominent UK-based health and wellness company, founded in 2019 by Sunna van Kampen, primarily known for its high-dose, sugar-free vitamin supplements and its massive social media presence. Taking to the @tonichealth Instagram page, which boasts 917,000 followers, Sunna van Kampen is seen sharing his reasoning behind ditching the M&S cookies . He tells viewers in the clip: "Let me tell you why I would never eat the M&S baked in-store cookies . Now I get it's a treat, but let me explain." Pointing to a bag of the cookies, he adds: "In these guys, the first ingredient is sugar, and in one cookie you can get up to 29 grams of sugar. "That is almost your entire daily intake in one cookie. That's insane." Instead, the influencer shared his "simple solution" - and that's to switch the cookies for M&S Shortbread Chocolate Button Cookies instead. "You still have your chocolate hit in there, but because it's a shortbread, it's about 50% less sugar for the same treat. "Shortbreads are the OG of biscuits... they're way lower in sugar and they have more real fats in there, so they use butter rather than palm oil , which is amazing." The clip quickly went viral, racking up more than 7,000 likes. One person was shocked by the clip, as they exclaimed: "Christ. I’ve eaten a whole bag." However, many others slammed the influencer for 'fearmongering' while others said they 'didn't care' and would continue eating the cookies. One person said: "As a nutritionist I can confirm that everything depends. I can’t stand it when people create fear around food." Another added: "I don’t care on this one… we only live once and I need those cookies." A third chimed in: "Watching this while eating a whole bag of the new white choc and raspberry ones." While a fourth wrote: "Didn’t need this today." A representative of M&S has been contacted for comment. M&S has recently expanded its bakery and dessert range recently with several highly-anticipated cookie releases, most notably the long-awaited White Chocolate & Raspberry Cookies. Launched on 8 April 2026, these in-store bakery cookies feature freeze-dried raspberries, white chocolate chunks, and oats for a chewy texture. The retailer also recently launched its Loaded & Topped Cookies too, which are a premium range of "viral-style" varieties like Raspberry Cheesecake, Pistachio, and Chocolate & Hazelnut.
