Carlos Ramirez, 23, was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound at his home just 30 minutes from Tucson. Police said they are searching for two Hispanic men dressed in black. Officers with the Pima County Sheriff's Office responded to the couple's home just before 6am and discovered Ramirez and his fiancée, 23, had both been shot. Ramirez's fiancée, who has not yet been identified, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital, the sheriff's office said. According to a release, investigators are searching for two men, described as Hispanic and dressed in all-black clothing and ski masks. The men were allegedly seen driving a gray SUV, the sheriff's office said. 'The young man was a member of the Tucson Police Department. The young lady was a member of our department,' Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a press conference. 'This is a pretty sad day for law enforcement.' 'This is a tragic event and a tremendous loss for our community, this city and our department,' Pima County Chief Monica Prieto said. The Tucson Police Department confirmed that Ramirez had been a member of their Basic Recruit Class 26-1. 'Our thoughts are with Carlo's family and loved ones, his fiancée, and his classmates, instructors and academy staff during this difficult time,' Officer Frank Magos, with the TPD, said in a statement to the Daily Mail. According to Magos, Ramirez had completed 23 weeks of training at the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Center and was scheduled to graduate on August 27. 'His passing is deeply felt by his classmates and the entire TPD family,' Magos added. Sheriff Nanos confirmed that Ramirez and his fiancée share a child together. Stacey Marshall Jr, a classmate of Ramirez, wrote on Facebook that he put the recruit down for class president and said: 'Your demeanor, the way you spoke and your officer presence would've made you a great cop. You will forever live on.'
