Hotel boss appears in court over death of X Factor star's fiancé after he plunged to his death from window just weeks before wedding

Olly Marmon, 33, died from head injuries after plunging from the third floor of the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on August 12, 2024. The stylist had been staying at the three-star hotel with Union J singer James 'Jaymi' Hensley when he fell out of a small open window. Now, two years on from the tragedy, hotel owner Marcus de Lannoy Holden has appeared in court charged with a string of alleged health and safety breaches. Holden, 57, of Shennington, Banbury, Oxfordshire, appeared at Northampton magistrates' court last month. Court papers show he is charged with failing to ensure that windows capable of being opened were likely to be opened, closed or adjusted in a manner which did not expose anyone to a risk to their health or safety. A second charge alleges he was contravening a requirement imposed by an improvement notice by failing to undertake a risk assessment of the condition and safe operation of all windows within the hotel, to eliminate the risk of people falling from them. The court also heard he is charged with failing to ensure the health and safety of his employees by neglect as well as failing to ensure that his employees were not exposed to risks to their health and safety. The charges were brought by North Northamptonshire Council. Emergency crews got to the hotel at 11.30pm but Olly could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene. Jaymi, whose band Union J scored a UK top ten album after finishing fourth on The X Factor in 2012, had been due to marry Olly just weeks later. The singer, who was 33 at the time, was arrested on suspicion of murder following the tragedy but was later released with no further action. An inquest into Olly's death heard he died from 'head injuries', before the case was opened and adjourned. Before the horror, Jaymi had been sharing his excitement about the couple's upcoming wedding. Posting a photo of himself kissing Olly on the cheek, he wrote: '14 years together and 1 year until "I do". 'I love you irrevocably and so excited that in 365 days we will finally be Mr&Mr.' Just three weeks before his death, Olly also shared a loved-up post, writing: 'Best week with my man and nine weeks and counting until we say I do!' Olly and Jaymi had been in a relationship since 2009 with the couple announcing their engagement in 2014. They met when they were both aged 18 and had shared smiling selfies of themselves on Instagram on trips to the Norwegian fjords and France. In a touching heartfelt statement following his death, Olly's mother Julie and stepfather Steve Peacock said: 'Words cannot express the devastation and heartbreak I feel over the loss of my beautiful youngest son Oliver, Olly to his friends. No mother should have to do this. 'The relationship I had with Oliver was so special, he was my best friend. We spoke every single day. He called me mummy, he used to call me his guardian angel. 'Oliver was so caring, loving, quiet and always put others before himself. He was a very talented hairdresser, and it was a passion he took seriously. 'More recently he had been working with his stepdad Steve gardening and loved it so much. He was spiritual and loved the outdoors. 'He touched many lives and everyone he met fell in love with him. Steve referred to Oliver as his son. 'I will miss my little Oliver so much and don't know how I will go on without him. 'Such a devastating loss to all our family including his brothers Ben and James and sister Alex, as well as his Auntie Loraine, Uncle Simon and cousin Sophie.' His father Leigh and stepmum Vanessa Marmon added: 'My darling Oliver, I cannot believe that I am writing this. I would give my life to have saved yours. 'I am struggling with every emotion you can think of, grief, anger, guilt, the list goes on. 'I know that you knew how much you were loved. I was so proud of you and everything you achieved. You have been to places that I can only dream of. 'Whatever you put your mind to, you achieved. When you were younger you were a talented sportsperson, musician and of course, hairdresser - your dream job. You won medals and awards in gymnastics and hairdressing. 'Your life was too short, but you squeezed so much into it. You were so kind-hearted, a gentle soul who was just so beautiful inside and out.' In a statement issued to the Daily Mail in 2024, a spokesman for Jaymi said: 'Jaymi Hensley would like to thank all the love, messages and prayers sent to him over the loss of his beautiful fiancé Oliver Marmon.
