Queensland Police have charged a 17-year-old boy with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death after he allegedly hit Bevon Sapolu on Saturday. The 38-year-old had been waiting for his girlfriend in a boat ramp car park in Shorncliffe, north Brisbane, when he was hit by a black Ford Focus. His partner-of-20-years, Deb, had arrived just moments before he was struck and tragically watched the horror unfold. Mr Sapolu died at the scene. Police allege the teen also drove the car into a tree and through a furniture store fence before he came to a stop. Mr Sapolu had been sleeping rough at the time but had recently got a job as a deckhand on a seafood trawler, Nine News reported. 'He was such a giving and caring person,' Deb told the publication. 'He loved his children, I knew he was trying so hard to do well.' The boy has been released on strict bail conditions and will appear in court at a later date.
