Gulf News has reached out to clergies from several churches across the emirate to gather their messages on the relevance of Easter in a world still facing uncertainty and challenges. Zachariah Severios, chief celebrant of passion week at St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral in Oud Metha, has noted that the resurrection of Christ stands as an eternal promise that hope will rise. “In the midst of global uncertainty, Easter calls us to trust, to heal, and to love beyond boundaries. Easter proclaims that hope is never buried, even in the face of despair. The resurrection reminds us that light will always overcome darkness,” said Severios. He has urged people to carry this message into everyday life and become lights in times of darkness. On the other hand, Jijo Mutheri, vicar at Mar Thoma Parish in Jebel Ali, has highlighted that Easter speaks directly to human experiences of both hope and hardship. “The resurrection of Christ did not emerge from comfort, but from a moment of deep sorrow and apparent loss. And yet, it revealed a truth that endures, that life is not defined by its darkest moments, and that hope can rise even when circumstances seem unyielding. Easter does not ask us to ignore reality, but to see it differently,” stated Mutheri Moreover, he has encouraged residents to live with steady hope, to choose compassion, and to embrace renewal, no matter the challenges. For his part, Prem Mitra, chaplain at Holy Trinity Church in Oud Metha, has reminded worshippers that Easter is a time to trust in God’s presence, even in difficult situations. “In a time when many are facing uncertainty, the resurrection of Jesus Christ speaks a powerful word, that God is present even in the most difficult moments and that no situation is beyond his power to redeem. Because he lives, we can face tomorrow with faith and confidence,” shared Mitra. He has also offered prayers for renewed hope, courage, and peace for all in the UAE and beyond. Meanwhile, Paolo Martinelli, apostolic vicar of Southern Arabia, has acknowledged that changes in schedules and celebrations may be necessary this year. He has called on the faithful to remain patient and united in prayer. “Pray the holy rosary every day in the family, offering it for peace in our region and in the world. May the celebrations of the holy week, lead us to the profound joy of Easter, where we will welcome once again, the radiant greeting of the risen Christ,” exclaimed Martinelli. As UAE residents prepare for Easter, these messages from church leaders serve as a reminder that hope outshines uncertainties and the community can rise stronger in faith.
