Heart-pounding moment accused Woolworths attacker is brought down by hero shopper at the checkout

By ASHLEY NICKEL, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 14:01, 13 August 2026 | Updated: 14:01, 13 August 2026 Dramatic footage has emerged of the moment a man who allegedly assaulted multiple people at a busy supermarket was tackled to the ground by a bystander. The drama unfolded about 11am on Wednesday at the Woolworths in Banyo, north Brisbane, when Jude Fincher, 25, allegedly approached a female teenage employee, struck her in the head with two bottles and further assaulted her on the ground. He was pulled off the woman but then allegedly assaulted three other people standing nearby, including a man in his 70s.  CCTV shows a scuffle breaking out in the checkout area before hero father-of-three Kevin Price leapt in and crash-tackled the alleged attacker to the ground on the hard supermarket floor.  Mr Price, 42, said he was doing his weekly shop when he heard the scuffle and jumped in before giving it a second thought. 'I had just arrived and was literally, in aisle one and didn't have anything in the trolley and I just heard like screaming from a couple females. And it didn't sound good,' he told The Courier Mail. 'It happened really quickly. It was probably all over in just under a minute.' Mr Price said he was a fan of the Broncos and particularly enjoyed watching centre Kotoni Staggs's bone-crunching tackles. He joked he was now expecting a call-up from their coach. Fincher was arrested and charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and serious assault of a person over 60.
