Flick’s existing deal is set to expire in the summer of 2027 and he said in March the Barcelona role will be his final job in management. Barca president Joan Laporta also confirmed in March that he wanted the 61-year-old to sign a contract extension. “My plan is to renew,” the Barcelona head coach told a press conference on Tuesday. “I’m 100 per cent honest. It will be the final step in my career. I feel great. I’d like to renew, but now isn’t the time to talk about it.” The Athletic reported the Champions League had been a priority for Barca this season — a competition they have not won since 2015 —  but they exited at the quarter-final stage last Tuesday following a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Atletico Madrid. Flick emphasised his ambition to win the Champions League with Barcelona, lead the team in a fully refurbished Camp Nou and continue to develop his young squad. Asked whether he would stay at Barcelona until he wins the Champions League, Flick replied: “The Champions League is a huge dream. That’s what life is all about; we have a fantastic team for the coming years. We need to make the right decisions for this summer’s transfer window. The team is young and there is great potential to improve more and more. “I want to be the manager in this stadium when it’s finished. I always say that I give my all, along with my entire staff, for this club; I’m very happy with how things work here — it’s a second family, there’s a lot of energy. Elimination is part of our world and we have to draw strength from this”. Flick joined Barcelona in the summer of 2024 and won La Liga during his debut season in charge. He previously won the Bundesliga and Champions League with Bayern Munich, and was Germany assistant coach when they won the 2010 World Cup, before managing the national team between 2021 and 2023. He described Barcelona as the “best” environment he has experienced in football “I had a great time with the national team, and with Bayern… but here I feel that everything around me is the best. Looking at everything — my career and my family — I’m very happy.” Barcelona lead La Liga by nine points with seven league matches remaining this season, and return to action against Celta Vigo on Wednesday.
