Cindy Ord / Getty Images Share articlePro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor has been hospitalized for the past week with a “stomach-related issue,” his attorney confirmed in a statement to The Athletic on Monday. “At this time, the condition does not appear to be life-threatening. He remains under medical observation and is showing signs of improvement,” attorney Mark Eiglarsh said. Taylor has been in the hospital since April 20, and his discharge date has “not yet been determined.” “Lawrence asks that I convey his sincere gratitude to everyone who has been thinking of him and keeping him in their prayers during this challenging time,” Eiglarsh said. Taylor was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999 after a 13-year NFL career with the New York Giants. He earned 10 Pro Bowl selections and eight first-team All-Pro nods, and was named MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in 1986, when he led the NFL with 20.5 sacks. He’s also made headlines for controversial reasons during and after his playing career. Most recently, in July 2024, he was arrested for failing to report his residence change as a registered sex offender. That case, which stemmed from a 2011 incident that led to Taylor pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute, was closed a month later. Last year, he joined President Donald Trump and a group of other athletes, including LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and WWE executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque, when Trump signed an executive order establishing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition and bringing back the Presidential Fitness Test for students in public schools.
