Isack Hadjar was left frustrated after feeling that he had “thrown it all away” in Qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, with the Frenchman stating that he “should have been in that top three” rather than his final position of P7. Hadjar had caught the eye with his pace during the Q1 and Q2 segments of the session in Montreal, having even topped the timesheets in the latter as the Red Bull appeared in much stronger form than it had been in Saturday’s Sprint a few hours earlier. Things appeared to unravel in Q3, however, and Hadjar wound up in seventh behind team mate Max Verstappen, leaving the 21-year-old to blame himself for the final part of Qualifying not going his way. “I made a mistake on the first run of Q3, and I couldn’t really have a good reference heading into that final lap and I was kind of overdriving it,” the downbeat driver explained afterwards. “It’s really a shame because it’s the first time this year we’ve had such a good car, and I had to kind of throw it all away because I didn’t do a good job. I’m quite p****d.” Despite this, Hadjar acknowledged that Red Bull had made progress entering into Qualifying at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. “We need to understand why we were so much quicker than yesterday, even though I have an idea,” he added. “That’s definitely positive, but then on the other hand I should have been in that top three and I didn’t.” This was not the only challenge that Hadjar was faced with on Saturday, with the French racer experiencing an issue on his car in the Sprint for which he initially retired before later rejoining at the back of the field.
