Green Line Express derails near Wazirabad

In a worrying rise in train accidents, the Karachi-to-Islamabad Green Line Express derailed near Wazirabad on Friday while exiting the station. Initial findings suggest the derailment was caused by broken coach buffers. This was the third train accident within a week—a development some officials attribute to negligence by Pakistan Railways authorities. A day earlier, the Karachi-to-Lahore 41-Up Karakoram Express met with an accident near Khanewal Junction when the train split into two sections. As the train entered the loop line at Khanewal Junction, the coupling connecting its coaches suddenly broke, separating the moving train into two sections. The unexpected malfunction led to scenes of fear and confusion among passengers on board. Despite the alarming situation, no loss of life or injuries were reported. However, the accident disrupted rail operations on both up and down tracks, forcing authorities to suspend train movement immediately. Several trains were halted at different stations as railway officials worked to restore normal operations and assess the situation. In another incident, the Tezgam Express derailed near Lodhran last week. However, railway teams later restored the track and the train resumed its journey. A joint investigation report later identified that the derailment occurred due to a technical fault in one of the train's bogies, which was found to be unfit.
