Google Translate Adds AI Pronunciation Training as It Expands into Language Learning
Fez – Google Translate is moving beyond simple translation, introducing a new artificial intelligence feature designed to help users improve their pronunciation as the platform marks 20 years since its launch.
The new tool, called “pronunciation practice,” is currently available on Android for a limited number of languages, including English, Spanish, and Hindi, and is being rolled out in the United States and India.
The company has not yet announced when the feature will expand to other regions or arrive on iOS devices.
The update reflects how users are already engaging with the app.
Data shows that around one-third of mobile users rely on Google Translate to improve their speaking and listening skills in everyday situations, according to a report cited by Digital Trends.
The feature is built into the translation interface.
After generating a translation, users can tap a new “Practice” button, which offers two options: listening to native pronunciation or attempting it themselves.
When users speak, the AI analyzes their voice in real time, identifies errors, and provides detailed feedback, including phonetic guidance for each word.
The experience closely resembles pronunciation training tools found in apps like Duolingo, which use interactive feedback to help learners refine their speech.
This update is part of a broader series of improvements to Google Translate.
The app has recently become better at interpreting idiomatic expressions and informal language, translating meaning rather than relying on literal wording.
It has also introduced live translation through headphones for iPhone users, a feature that was previously limited to Android.
With these changes, Google Translate is steadily evolving into a more complete language-learning platform, powered by artificial intelligence and designed for practical, everyday use.
