Global car manufacturer Peugeot is dealt major blow in Australia amid sales slump

Inchcape Australasia will cut Peugeot from its portfolio after distributing the vehicles for nine years. 'As part of Inchcape's standard approach to portfolio management, we continuously review our partnerships to ensure we have the right portfolio of brands for our business, aligned with our strategic growth objectives,' a statement read.  'As a result, Inchcape Australia and Stellantis have mutually agreed to end their distribution partnership for Peugeot in Australia, with the final date to be confirmed following a transition period. 'Stellantis has confirmed the Peugeot brand will continue in Australia and will provide updates on its local plans in due course.'  The announcement comes following years of falling sales for the French car maker.  Peugeot sold only 373 cars in Australia in the first five months of this year - a 35 per cent drop from the record low set in 2025.  Sales are predicted to fall short of 1,000 in 2026 after just 1,350 were sold last year.  The distributor for a global car maker has revealed it will no longer ship its vehicles to Australia  This is a far cry from the company's heyday in 2005, when it sold more than 7,000 vehicles.  The news comes two years after Inchcape Australia axed sister brand Citroen which didn't surpass 1,000 a year since 2015 after peaking in 2007 with 3,803 sales. Currently, there are 29 Peugeot dealers in Australia and Subaru is by far the best performing brand. No comments have so far been submitted.
