Germany's Daniel Siebert to referee PSG vs. Arsenal Champions League final

Siebert, 42, will take charge of his third Arsenal Champions League match of the season at the Puskas Arena on May 30, having also overseen the semi-final second-leg victory over Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium, and quarter-final first-leg win against Sporting CP at Estadio Jose Alvalade. The Germany Bundesliga official will be assisted by compatriots Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn, while Bastian Dankert has been appointed as video assistant referee (VAR) and Sandro Scharer of Switzerland has been named fourth official. Both Dankert and Scharer are among the 170 match officials appointed for this summer’s World Cup. Siebert has refereed nine Champions League matches this season, with his most recent PSG fixture the league phase 0-0 draw against Athletic Club in December. May’s fixture will mark the first UEFA club competition final he has taken charge of. Siebert previously officiated two games at the 2024 European Championship and three at Euro 2020. He was also among the match officials at the 2022 World Cup, and took charge of the heated group stage fixture between Ghana and Uruguay, where he opted to stick with his decision to not award a penalty to Uruguay after being advised to review the decision by the VAR. Siebert will not be at the 2026 World Cup, with Felix Zwayer the only German referee appointed to this summer’s tournament. UEFA has also confirmed the appointment of French official Francois Letexier, who took charge of the Euro 2024 final, for the Europa League final between Aston Villa and Freiburg. Italian official Maurizio Mariani has been confirmed as the referee for the Conference League final between Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano, marking the first UEFA club competition final he has taken charge of, having been fourth official for last season’s Europa League final. Swedish official Tess Olofsson will referee the women’s Champions League final between Lyon and Barcelona. Olofsson has taken charge of four matches in this season’s competition and was also at Euro 2024, where she officiated the dramatic quarter-final between France and Germany. Spot the pattern.
