ALBAWABA - Police in Munich shot and critically injured a 14-year-old Turkish teenager who was carrying an airsoft gun that they said looked very similar to a real firearm.
The shooting occurred on Belgradstrasse in Munich’s Schwabing neighborhood after members of the public reported seeing someone carrying a weapon.
Plain clothes officers arrived at the site and had contact with the teenager. The police narrative states the youngster was allegedly making actions “consistent with loading the weapon.”
Officers stated they gave warnings, but the boy allegedly raised the airsoft pistol and pointed it at them and one officer opened fire.
Teen Has Surgery
The teenager suffered significant injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. Later, his status was listed as stable.
The airsoft pistol used in the incident was very similar to a real firearm and would have been very difficult for authorities to tell the difference at a distance, officers claimed.
Prosecutors probe shooting
Prosecutors have launched a preliminary investigation to investigate if the officer's use of force was lawful and to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The cop who fired the shot is said to be considered a witness at this stage of the investigation.
Authorities have also begun an inquiry into the 14-year-old on claims he threatened police officers during the incident.
Family Moved to Germany 2023
The teenager and his family came in Germany in 2023, according to local sources. Their asylum application has apparently been refused.
Authorities are still looking into the series of events that led to the shooting, including the teen’s behavior and how the cops reacted.
