In today's GB News Daily Reflection, we examine the common saying, 'you don't know what you've got till it's gone'.

"One of the difficult things for us to acknowledge about ourselves is that we're not great at preserving the good, the good in relationships, in society, in communities, and in our natural world.

"We seem to have an inbuilt self-destruct button. Sometimes when we have something good in our lives or our world, something in us just wants to hit that button sometimes just to see what will happen.

"The Bible scholar Willie James Jennings once wrote, life together as a people is not a given. It must be won again and again from the things that would undermine it and drain it of life.

"What he's saying is that sometimes carelessness is what costs us the most. Not realising the value of what we have until after we've lost it. In the Gospels, we see that Jesus cares. God cares for us and our world. So learning to follow Jesus is learning to care for ourselves and others, for the good that's in our lives and in our world before it's gone."
