المصدر: GB News | Source: GB NewsIn today's GB News Daily Reflection, we remember that in the logic of the gospel, the opposite of stealing isn't not stealing, but working hard to have something to share.
"The ancient desert monks had a name for a particular temptation which they called the Noonday Demon. It wasn't the lure of bad things, it was even worse. It was a creeping indifference to all things.
"The monk afflicted by this would stare from his cell window, unable to pray, unable to work. Numb to everything that once seemed to matter. We usually call it laziness, but the old writers called it something more precise the sin of omission. Not doing the good that needed doing, often at someone else's expense.
"The Apostle Paul's answer in the letter to the Ephesian is striking. He says, let the thief no longer steal, but work with their own hands so that they might have something to share with those in need.
"Christians believe that diligence at his heart is not about productivity or status. It's about becoming someone who creates in order to give, who works in order to bless others.
"And that makes sense if we take our cues from Christ, who worked hard his whole life, who gave up everything to work to give the reward of eternal life to others. That changed the way that we think now about our own diligence and our own lives."
