Yükseköğretim Zirvesi'ne (EURIE 2026) katılan Gazze İslam Üniversitesi Eski Rektörü Prof. Dr. Kamalain Shaath, AA muhabirine değerlendirmelerde bulundu. Shaath, İsrail'in Ekim 2023'te Gazze'ye yönelik başlattığı saldırıların yakıcı etkilerine işaret ederek, halihazırda Gazze'deki durumun çok zor olduğunu, Filistinlilerin hayatta kalmaktan başka bir şansı olmadığını dile getirdi. Çocuklardan yaşlılara tüm Filistin halkının eğitime çok önem verdiğini ve bu konuda endişeleri olduğunu aktaran Shaath, "Biz daha önceki tecrübelerimizden biliyoruz ki, eğitim toplum olarak hayatta kalmamızın tek yoludur." ifadesini kullandı. Shaath, Gazze'de okuma yazma bilmeyenlerin oranının yaklaşık yüzde 2 olduğunu kaydederek, İsrail'in Filistin'i işgaline göğüs gerebilmek için "eğitimin şart" olduğunu vurguladı. İsrail'in saldırıları nedeniyle bölgedeki altyapının büyük ölçüde zarar gördüğüne dikkati çeken Shaath, üniversitelerin yaklaşık 6 ay boyunca faaliyetlerine ara verdiğini ancak daha sonra çevrim içi eğitime geçtiğini söyledi. Shaath, eğitim faaliyetlerinin son derece kısıtlı imkanlarla sürdürüldüğünü, öğrencilerin çadırlarda, elektriksiz ortamlarda eğitim gördüğünü belirtti. Filistin'de çevrim içi eğitim kapasitesinin yaklaşık yüzde 70 seviyesine ulaştığını aktaran Shaath, Gazze'deki öğrencilerin hala ciddi sorunlar yaşadığının ve bunları çözmek için desteğe ihtiyaç duyduklarının altını çizdi. Gazze'deki üniversitelerin büyük ölçüde kar amacı gütmeyen kurumlar olduğuna işaret eden Shaath, okul gelirlerinin önemli bölümünün öğrenci harçlarından sağlandığını anlattı. Shaath, bu durumun savaş koşullarında sürdürülebilirliği zorlaştırdığını dile getirerek "Öğrencilerin harçlarını ödeyebilmesi için burs desteğine ihtiyacımız var. Ancak bu şekilde üniversiteler de personel maaşlarını ödeyebilir." dedi. Saldırılarda hasar gören eğitim altyapısının yeniden inşasının sağlanması için inşaat malzemelerinin bölgeye girişine izin verilmesi gerektiğini vurgulayan Shaath, kaynakların ülkeye girebilmesi için İsrailliler üzerinde siyasi baskı kurulması çağrısında bulundu. Shaath, Gazze'deki akademik çevrelerin uluslararası üniversitelerle daha güçlü işbirliği kurmasının hayati önem taşıdığını belirterek, akademisyen ve öğrencilerin uluslararası konferanslara katılımının, çevrim içi işbirliklerinin, ortak araştırma projeleri ile lisansüstü burs imkanlarına erişiminin artırılması gerektiğini ifade etti. Filistinli öğrencilerin yüksek lisans ve doktora yapabilmesi için daha fazla burs imkanının sağlanması gerektiğine değinen Shaath, kaybedilen akademik kapasitenin uluslararası ortak araştırma ve tez danışmanlıklarıyla telafi edilebileceğini söyledi. Shaath, uluslararası akademik çevrelerin Gazze'ye yönelik yaklaşımını da değerlendirerek, verilen desteğin yetersiz kaldığını dile getirdi. Uluslararası toplumun Ukrayna'ya sağladığı imkanlarla Gazze'ye sağladığı imkanlar arasında büyük bir fark olduğuna dikkati çeken Shaath, "Ukrayna'da olanlar çok zor. Ukrayna'daki durum çok farklı bir hikaye. Ukrayna için tüm kapılar açılırken 'Gazze için bu imkanların yüzde 10'u sağlandı' diyebilirim." dedi. Shaath, yine de olayların pozitif yönüne odaklanılması gerektiğinin kaydederek "Eğer yüzde 10'luk bir destek varsa, bunu yüzde 20'ye çıkaralım." diye konuştu.
