By EMMA RICHTER, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 22:38, 27 April 2026 | Updated: 22:44, 27 April 2026 Gavin Newsom's wife slammed President Donald Trump for having a 'disturbing' and 'misogynistic' outburst during his recent 60 Minutes interview.  Trump sat down with CBS's Norah O’Donnell on Sunday evening to discuss the recent assassination attempt that occurred just 24 hours earlier in Washington DC. Trump, the first lady, and thousands of other leading politicians and journalists gathered in a hotel on Saturday night for the White House Correspondents' Dinner, when a shooter, Cole Allen, 31, opened fire inside.  He was tackled to the ground and arrested by Secret Service agents. No one was shot, except for an agent who was saved by his bulletproof vest.  During his discussion with O'Donnell, the president called the veteran journalist a 'disgrace' for reading excerpts from Allen's manifesto that made wild claims about 'pedophiles' and 'rapists'.  After speaking those words, Trump erupted at O'Donnell, which enraged Jennifer Newsom, who took to X on Monday afternoon to rant about how the interview 'shocked' her and her family.  'My family and I watched the 60 Minutes interview with Donald Trump and Norah O’Donnell last night, and we were shocked,' the first partner of California, 51, wrote.  'Seeing a president speak to a woman journalist with that level of contempt — and a clear allergy to facts — is disturbing, though at this point not unexpected given his pattern of behavior.' Gavin Newsom's wife, Jennifer, slammed Donald Trump for his 'disturbing' and misogynistic outburst during his recent 60 Minutes interview In a subsequent post, the Democrat added: 'Add in rhetoric rooted in political division, amplified by a digital ecosystem that rewards outrage and misinformation, and this cultural norm of hate, othering, and misogyny becomes pervasive.  'Behavior that should be challenged gets normalized; what should raise concern is amplified and cheered on. 'It’s no wonder we have a culture that normalizes dominance and aggression toward women and girls, which not only silences them but also leads to internalized misogyny in others.'  She ended her post with a personal shoutout to O'Donnell and all female journalists.  'Thank you to Norah, all of the female journalists, and frankly to all of YOU who continue to be brave and speak truth to power. This culture of misogyny is on all of us, and it has to end.'  During her interview with Trump, who often refers to Jennifer's husband as 'Newscum,' O'Donnell read some of the most inciting lines of Allen's missive.  'He appears to reference a motive. In it, he writes this: quote, ''Administrative officials, they are targets.'' He also wrote this: "I am no longer willing to permit a [child predator], [sexual abuser], and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes." What's your reaction to that?,' she asked.  Trump replied: 'Well, I was waiting for you to read that, because I knew you would. Because you're horrible people. Horrible people. Yeah, he did write that. I am not a [sexual abuser]. I didn't [sexually assault] anybody.' Trump sat down with CBS's Norah O’Donnell on Sunday evening to discuss the recent assassination attempt that occurred just 24 hours earlier in Washington DC. During it, he called the journalist a 'disgrace' for reading excerpts from Cole Allen's manifesto Jennifer ended her post with a personal shoutout to O'Donnell and all female journalists O'Donnell attempted to interrupt Trump, asking: 'Oh, do you think he was referring to you?' 'Excuse me. Excuse me. I am not a [child predator],' he quickly said, cutting the anchor off. Trump then appeared to refer to what he felt was the connection Allen was attempting to make between himself and [child predator] financier Jeffrey Epstein. 'You read that crap from some sick person. I got associated with all stuff that has nothing to do with me. I was totally exonerated. Your friends on the other side of the plate are the ones that were involved with, let's say, Epstein or other things.' Trump has never been charged with a crime in connection to Epstein, who the President has said he kicked out of his Mar-a-Lago club decades ago. The President continued to go after O'Donnell and appeared to regret going on with the interview at all. 'But I said to myself, you know, I'll do this interview and they'll probably — I read the manifesto. It was a sick person. But you should be ashamed of yourself reading that, because I'm not any of those things.' O'Donnell continued to clarify that those were the gunman's words, but he was having none of it. 'Excuse me. Excuse me. You shouldn't be reading that on 60 minutes. You're a disgrace. But go ahead, let's finish the interview,' he said. Trump and First Lady Melania are seen just before being rushed off the stage as shots rang out in the Washington Hilton hotel on Saturday evening during the dinner O'Donnell had asked Trump if he might try to improve his relationship with a combative press in the wake of the shooting. 'Look, for whatever reason, we disagree on a lot of subjects. We talked about crime, I am very strong on crime. It seems like the press isn't,' Trump said. 'It's not so much the press, but the press plus the Democrats. It's almost like they are one and the same.' Trump also told O'Donnell that he may have slowed the Secret Service's response after shots were fired on Saturday night. The President recounted how he 'wanted to see what was happening.' 'And I wasn't going to make it that easy for them, I wanted to see what was going on,' he said of the Secret Service. On Monday afternoon, Allen appeared emotionless as he was seen for the first time since his arrest. He is seen in his mugshot The Justice Department accused the California native of attempting to attack the dinner - and target Trump and administration officials - by running through a Secret Service checkpoint with a shotgun, handgun, and knives. One of the guns he brought into the hotel is seen  But soon, he said, security 'started to realize maybe it was a bad problem... different from [the] normal noise that you hear from a ballroom, which you hear all the time. 'I was surrounded by great people and I probably made them act a little bit more sluggish,' he continued. 'I said, "Wait a minute, wait a minute, let me see."' On Monday afternoon, Allen appeared emotionless as he was seen for the first time since his arrest.  The Justice Department accused the California native of attempting to attack the dinner - and target Trump and administration officials - by running through a Secret Service checkpoint with a shotgun, handgun, and knives. The alleged gunman was brought into court for the first time on Monday in a blue prison jumpsuit and was charged with attempting to assassinate the President of the United States. That charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.  The comments below have not been moderated.
