Pierre Gasly's Monaco Grand Prix podium has been reinstated after Alpine's Right of Review request proved successful. After starting ninth on the grid last weekend in the Principality, the Frenchman had improved to P4 throughout a race that included two Safety Cars and a red flag before gaining another position as Mercedes' George Russell served a late drive-through penalty. However, Gasly had been penalised for speeding in the pit lane twice during the race and was handed two separate five-second time penalties which were added to his time, demoting him to seventh at the chequered flag – a final result that left him heartbroken. Following the race, Alpine requested a Right of Review into the decision that cost Gasly his first podium of the season, with the initial hearing taking place on Thursday during the start of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix weekend. The Enstone-based squad were succesful in the initial hearing, having succesfully provided new, significant and relevent evidence, while it was also confirmed in the decision document that FOM [Formula One Management] – as Official Timekeeping Supplier to the Competition – "provided evidence that the distance used in calculating the F1 Official Timing (and hence the pit lane speed) was inaccurate and overestimated the speed of Car 10 (Gasly)." A subsequent hearing to review Gasly's penalty took place shortly after on Thursday, with the FIA confirming on Friday morning that the Frenchman's penalties had been rescinded and his Monaco Grand Prix podium was reinstated.
