Gardener says don't throw out old tights as they could transform your garden

A gardener has revealed three ways Brits can reuse a pair of old tights to transform their gardens. Garden expert Simon Akeroyd said old tights can be repurposed in different ways to help transform and maintain your garden. On social media, Simon shared his three top uses for your old hosiery in the garden to stop you throwing them in the bin every time. His first suggestion is to use an old pair as a tree tie to help your shrubs grow better and protect them from damage in British weather . To carry out this hack, the author demonstrates how he attaches a tree to a wooden stake by tying a knot with the tights between the two. He explains that the tights will then expand as the tree grows to will prevent it from being strangled - compared to traditional methods such as cable ties. The knot tied between the two also helps to cushion the stake and prevent it from damaging the tree in windy weather. Simon's second suggestion is to use old tights as a space-saving storage solution. Firstly, stack the garden pots down each leg of the pair of tights and then hang them up on the wall with a nail. Then cut the toe off the bottom of each leg, which will see your old pair of tights transformed into a space-saving pot dispenser. Thirdly, Simon explains how you can use sections of old tights to cover drainage holes in your plant pots to help stop compost leaching out when the plants are being watered. To carry out this quick trick, he places a piece of the tights inside the bottom of the pot, which allows the water through the holes, but keeps the compost in place. After sharing his three hacks online, Simon then asked his followers about other ways they could use old tights to transform their garden.
