Lampard, 47, took the Coventry job in November 2024 and is under contract until June 2027. This season, his first full campaign in charge, he has guided the team to the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League. They will lift the Championship trophy after their match at home against Wrexham on Sunday. Asked by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire (CWR) whether there were discussions taking place with owner Doug King regarding his contract, Lampard said: “No discussions. I’m just getting on with my job and enjoying these last couple of weeks.” Before taking over at Coventry, Lampard’s managerial career included two spells in charge of Chelsea, where he made 648 appearances as a player. Head coach Liam Rosenior was sacked by Chelsea on Wednesday after a torrid run of form that has left them eighth in the Premier League. They face Leeds United in the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley on Sunday, with interim head coach Calum McFarlane taking charge. The Athletic reported Chelsea are considering seven or eight options for Rosenior’s successor, including Andoni Iraola, who is leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season. Lampard attended his former side’s defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge this month, and his links to the London club have prompted fans to speculate about his future. “As a football club they’re in a difficult patch,” Lampard said of his former club in a press conference. “They have a chance probably to be able to get something out of the season with the FA Cup and the league position if they can make that better. “But it’s Chelsea’s business. Chelsea’s a big part of my life, but at the moment it’s their business and my business is here.” Asked if he could understand why some Coventry fans might be worried about losing him given his links to Chelsea, Lampard said: “I’d like to think that Coventry fans are just enjoying what we’ve done through this season. “Lots of things are out of your control, all you can do is control your work. I have to come and speak to you and sort of talk about rumours, etc, but at the minute I think we should just enjoy where we are. “We’ve had an amazing season, I’m really proud and pleased to be a part of it, and I enjoy doing what I’m doing. So I can’t control who worries or not, I would say just enjoy this because it’s a special year.” Coventry owner and chairman King said he believed Lampard was “happy” at the club but admitted that given what the former England international has achieved this season, interest in him in the summer could not be ruled out. King, also speaking to BBC CWR, said: “I think he’s found a happy place at the moment. “It doesn’t mean there’s (not) going to be some staggering bid for him in the summer and he’ll have to make his choices, because he’s shown his credentials as a high quality head coach, but I’m not going to comment on that, I can’t control it. “I just think he’s happy, I’m happy, everybody’s happy… we’ve just got smiles on our faces and we don’t worry about what may or may not happen for the head coach.” Spot the pattern.
