Former Swansea Chinese restaurant intended to be turned into flats
An abandoned former Chinese restaurant which has laid vacant in the middle of a Swansea suburb for around a decade looks set to be given a fresh lease of life. Praveen Prabakaran has asked Swansea Council for permission to transform the former Fortune City into three self-contained residential flats. The old restaurant, based along Llangyfelach Road in Brynhyfryd, Swansea, has been vacant for around eight to ten years. Planning documents describe the building as "deteriorating", and there are now plans to transform it into new living accommodation. Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here . A planning statement reads: "The application site comprises a vacant two-storey mid-terraced property located along Llangyfelach Road within Brynhyfryd local centre. "The property was formerly occupied as a Chinese takeaway and restaurant known as 'Fortune City' with ancillary residential accommodation above. "The premises have remained vacant for approximately eight to 10 years and currently present a deteriorating and under-utilised appearance within the street scene. "The proposal seeks the re-use of a long-term vacant and deteriorating building within an established urban area. "It would provide additional residential accommodation within the existing urban boundary whilst securing the beneficial re-use of a vacant building which currently makes little positive contribution toward the vitality or appearance of the local centre." Swansea Council's planning department will now consider the application. Get Swansea news updates on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here .
