Five students rushed to hospital after packed Sydney school bus crashes

Emergency services were called to Erskine Park Road in Erskine Park shortly before 1pm on Thursday following reports a bus had left the road and hit a tree. A major rescue operation was required to extricate the driver, a teacher and 41 students from Years 11 and 12 trapped in the wreckage. The driver was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition for further treatment and mandatory testing. Five students – aged between 16 and 18 were taken to various hospitals for further treatment. One suffered suspected fractures. The teacher and remaining students were shaken but not physically injured. They have all been taken home or back to school. The northbound lane of Erskine Park Road remains closed.
