Five arrested in dramatic raids on CFMEU headquarters over alleged construction corruption

Published: 04:20, 24 August 2026 | Updated: 04:28, 24 August 2026 Police have arrested five people during a dramatic raid on the CFMEU's Melbourne headquarters as part of an investigation into alleged construction industry corruption.  Victoria Police detectives swooped on six addresses on Monday morning as part of a probe into alleged secret commissions. One of the premises was the Elizabeth Street office of the construction union. 'Five people have been taken into custody and are being interviewed by police,' a police spokesperson said.  The men are believed to be union organisers, the Herald Sun reports.  CFMEU assistant administrator Matt McGowan confirmed their headquarters had been raided by police. 'CFMEU has been made aware of a police operation this morning as part of Taskforce Hawk,' he said in a statement. 'As this is a live police matter, CFMEU can not comment further at this time.'
