The nation’s participation in the tournament has been in doubt since the start of their conflict with the United States of America and Israel.‌US President Donald Trump had previously claimed that while the team is welcome, he discouraged them from travelling due to safety fears. Speaking in March, he said: “The Iran national soccer team is welcome to the World Cup, but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety.”‌With a ceasefire agreement having been reached between the nations last week, Infantino has offered an update on the situation and has said that Iran will indeed travel to the USA.‌Speaking at CNBC’s Invest in America Forum, he said: “The Iranian team is coming for sure, yes.
