Almanya'nın başkenti Berlin'de gerçekleştirilecek törenle Türkoğlu, Onur Listesi'ne giren ilk Türk sporcu olacak. A Milli Basketbol Takımı, Anadolu Efes ve Amerikan Basketbol Ligi'nde (NBA) geçen 20 yıllık kariyerine sayısız başarılar sığdıran, aktif kariyerini sonlandırdıktan sonra federasyon başkanı olarak 2016 yılından bu yana Türk basketboluna hizmet eden 47 yaşındaki Türkoğlu, aralık ayında 2026 yılının Onur Listesi'ne seçilmişti. TBF Başkanı Hidayet Türkoğlu'nun milli takım formasıyla sergilediği istikrarlı performans, liderliği ve Türk basketboluna kazandırdığı miras, 2026 Onur Listesi'ne seçilmesiyle FIBA tarafından tescillendi. Milli takım formasıyla 1994-2014 yıllarında 309 kez parkeye çıkan ve 3 bin 475 sayı kaydeden Türkoğlu, uzun yıllar A Erkek Milli Takımı'nın kaptanlığını üstlenerek Türk basketbolunun en önemli lider figürlerinden biri oldu. 2001 Avrupa Basketbol Şampiyonası ve 2010 FIBA Dünya Basketbol Şampiyonası’nda gümüş madalya kazanan tarihi kadrolarda yer alan Türkoğlu, NBA'de ilk 5'de maça çıkan ilk, 10 bin sayı barajını geçen tek Türk oyuncu olmayı başardı. 15 yıllık NBA kariyerinde 6 takımın formasını giyen Türkoğlu, normal sezonda 997 (571'i ilk beş), play-off'larda ise 109 maça çıkarak "NBA'de en fazla maç oynayan Türk basketbolcu" ünvanını elinde tutan Türkoğlu, Orlando Magic formasıyla 2008'de en iyi gelişme gösteren oyuncu (MIP) seçildi. Uluslararası basketbolun tarihini, gelişim sürecini ve oyuna yön veren isimleri kayıt altına alma hedefiyle hayata geçirilen FIBA Onur Listesi, basketbolun dünya genelinde yaygınlaşmasına ve farklı kıtalarda kök salmasına katkı sağlayan figürleri onurlandırmayı amaçlıyor. Basketbolu yalnızca sportif başarılar üzerinden değil; etki, süreklilik ve tarihsel iz üzerinden değerlendiren FIBA Onur Listesi'ne, oyunu dönüştüren, ülkelerinde basketbolu sıçrama noktasına taşıyan ve kıtalar arası etki oluşturan figürler seçiliyor.
