Todd Kirkland / Getty Images Share full articleAfter six years as the Atlanta Falcons’ right tackle, Kaleb McGary is retiring from the NFL. His agent tweeted the news Wednesday afternoon. McGary, 31, the 31st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, was a mainstay on the Falcons’ offensive line for the first six seasons of his career but missed all of 2025 due to a knee injury he suffered during the preseason. He started 92 games at right tackle for Atlanta in his career. McGary’s departure comes as a surprise, as he was in the building earlier this year rehabbing his injury, and it reshapes the Falcons’ priorities for the offseason. Atlanta doesn’t have a first-round pick in this month’s draft but now could be looking to acquire a starting-caliber tackle with the 48th pick, their first selection. The Falcons also could move starting left guard Matthew Bergeron to right tackle. That move was considered last year when McGary was injured just days before the start of the season. Atlanta currently has tackles Storm Norton, Michael Jerrell and Jack Nelson (last year’s seventh-round pick) on the roster. Norton is a six-year veteran with 22 career starts, but he also missed all of the 2025 season due to a leg injury. Spot the pattern.
