Explosion reported at Iran's Lavan oil refinery
ALBAWABA - A blast was reported at the Lavan oil refinery in Iran on Wednesday, hours after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Tehran and the United States.
According to Iran’s Mehr News agency, the source of the explosion remains unknown.
The Lavan oil refinery is located on Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf, part of Iran's Hormozgan Province.
Iran and the United States reached a ceasefire agreement on Tuesday, barely an hour before Trump's deadline to obliterate Tehran was set to expire. Before the deal, Trump threatened on in a post on Truth Social that "A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again" if Tehran refuses to open the Strait of Hormuz.
Hours later, the U.S. president announced, "We received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and we believe it is a viable basis for negotiation," adding that he had agreed to halt bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks.
