ALBAWABA - Andy Burnham, Britain’s new PM is on a visit to Ukraine on its 35th Independence Day to announce the sharing of classified information regarding the UK’s Storm Shadow rockets – at the same time Norway pledges $9.7 billion for Ukraine in 2027.
As Ukraine has had issues with the U.S. over the supply and licensing of sorely needed Patriot missile defense systems, Britain is filling the gap by providing Ukraine with its own missile interception technology called Storm Shadow.
The strong show of support highlights Burnham’s governments’ commitment to Ukraine as he plans to announce the technology sharing from European defense company MBDA about UK-made components of the Anglo-French Storm Shadow/Scalp missiles to help Ukraine build its own version during his visit to the country on its independence day.
Burnham said in a statement on Sunday night: “On Ukraine’s 35th anniversary of independence, the Ukrainian people should be in no doubt: the UK is behind you today and for as long as it takes.
At the same time, Norway has pledged $9.7 billion dollars in support for Ukraine in 2027, matching its 2026 number, as part of the Nansen Support Program which allocates funds for Ukraine for both civil and military purposes.
“Support and reconstruction of Ukraine are also important for European security,” Norway PM Jonas Gahr Støre said in an announcement. “Therefore, the government proposes to continue emergency support in the amount of 85 billion kroner [$9.7 billion] next year.”
