Eric Swalwell criminal probe escalates as half-dozen FBI agents are seen raiding disgraced ex-congressman's DC home

By SHAWN COHEN, US SENIOR REPORTER Published: 20:18, 20 August 2026 | Updated: 20:29, 20 August 2026 Over half a dozen FBI agents can be seen descending on Eric Swalwell's Washington, DC, home in exclusive video - as the federal criminal investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against the disgraced Democrat ramps up.  Footage obtained by the Daily Mail show law enforcement pulling up to the property in unmarked vehicles Sunday morning before entering the home and seizing what sources described as 'undisclosed potential evidence'.  Some agents were seen arriving in plainclothes, with only a few wearing FBI-marked shirts.  The flurry of law enforcement activity caught the attention of one neighbor, who woke up to see multiple vehicles lining the street in the typically quiet, residential neighborhood and agents filing in and out of Swalwell's house.  'I woke up and came out here to get some air,' he told the Daily Mail. 'There was about eight of them, in two or three cars.  'There were some coming out of the house and others going back in.' The local didn't know much about Swalwell but said he had heard about the alleged crimes. 'I could never respect someone like him with all of these accusers. Swalwell's MacBook Pro, charging cable, and wall charger were also seized during Saturday's search, which was conducted at 8.25pm, according to a warrant obtained by The San Francisco Standard. The search warrant, which was filed on August 13, was reportedly filed under a federal statute (Section 242 of Title 18) which prohibits officials, including law enforcement, from abusing their authority to deprive someone of their constitutional rights - though it is unclear how the law applies to Swalwell's case.  Swalwell has denied any wrongdoing.  The agents, armed with additional court-approved search warrants, then made their way to his house in Washington, DC, the following day to conduct a raid, well-placed sources told the Daily Mail. Insiders say the former representative started his day Saturday in Washington, where he still maintains a residence with his wife and three children. He headed to the airport later in the day and flew to his home state of California. The feds were waiting for him when he stepped off the plane. According to sources, Swalwell was cooperative. Swalwell, 45, faces multiple sexual assault allegations. At least four women have made sexual misconduct allegations, including a former staffer who claimed the married politician raped her twice when she was too intoxicated to consent in 2019 and 2024. Another woman alleged he drugged and raped her in 2018.  Two of the women said he had sent them unsolicited pictures of his penis. The Department of Justice launched its investigation into the disgraced former congressman in April. Swalwell was also being investigated by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Swalwell has vehemently denied the allegations, but they nevertheless torpedoed his campaign for California governor, forcing him to drop out of a race he'd once led.  In May, exclusive Daily Mail photos showed Swalwell's wife Brittany Watts, 41, stepping out of their DC residence without her wedding ring, amid the investigation into her husband  The former Democratic congressman, 46, met Watts when they were introduced by mutual friends in 2015. He has kept a low profile ever since, including Monday, when newly declassified records were released about his escapades with the Chinese spy known as 'Fang Fang.' The White House Transparency Task Force dropped the documents, in which Swalwell admitted to the FBI that he 'occasionally hooked up' with Fang. The Chinese national spent years cozying up to rising California Democrats, helping bundle donations for Swalwell's 2014 re-election campaign and even placing an intern in his congressional office. Swalwell has not been accused by law enforcement of any wrongdoing in the Fang Fang scandal. Meanwhile, he has denied any wrongdoing in connection with the sexual assault and sexual misconduct allegations.  While rejecting the claims, the former lawmaker acknowledged making 'mistakes in judgment' and apologized to his wife. While the accusations destroyed his political career and prompted calls for further investigations from both parties, the state of his nine-year marriage remains in question. How do you live with that?' a friend of the family said at the time.  The allegations began with claims from a former staffer who alleged she was raped by Swalwell when she was too intoxicated to consent.  She told CNN that in April 2024, after a night of heavy drinking in New York City, she woke up to Swalwell having sex with her in his hotel bed. 'I was pushing him off of me, saying no,' she said, adding that it happened after she stopped working in his office. 'He didn't stop.' The Daily Mail has reached out to Eric Swalwell. The Department of Justice and the FBI declined to comment.
