The country's weight comes from running flows: LNG cargoes onto ships, passengers and freight through Doha, capital across borders, mediation in places almost no one else can hold open, and labor and remittances moving in both directions.That model is now being read in a new light. For a small state whose value comes from being indispensable to several global circuits, the strategic question has shifted. The right way to read Qatar isn't through size or geographic depth.
