Emily Carver fights back tears while discussing case of teen rapists who were spared jail

Emily Carver fought back tears as she discussed the case of three teenage rapists who were spared jail.

The traveller boys, who were aged between 13 and 14 at the time, sexually assaulted two teenage girls and “laughed" while filming the attacks.

Although the three were convicted of a total of 11 rape charges, they were allowed to walk free by Judge Nicholas Rowland.

“I should avoid criminalising these children unnecessarily and understand the effects of their behaviour and support their reintegration into society,” he said during the trial.

Following the trial, one of the victims told the BBC it: “Almost made it seem as if what the boys did was not OK, but it was OK in the eyes of the law because they were still children”

“What was the point in putting me through that?”

After hearing the testimony, Emily became emotional as she introduced the discussion.

“As a teenage girl going through such a horrific ordeal as this, being raped, filmed and then going to court and hearing a judge give a non-custodial sentence… I'm not surprised she feels that way," she said.

“I'm welling up just thinking about how their trust in the system (was broken), you hope that somehow justice will be served,” she said, trailing off as she held back tears."
