One passenger asked the airline for guidance after being stuck in a long passport control queue at the airport, with mere minutes left until her flight's boarding gate closed. Many people travelling across Europe have been experiencing delays due to long queues at border control. It comes as the European Union's (EU) new Entry/Exit System (EES) was officially launched across the Schengen Area last week. The new automated IT system came into force on April 10, 2026. It replaces manual passport stamping for non-EU nationals (including British citizens) with a digital record of their entry and exit.On your first visit since the rollout, you need to give your fingerprints and a picture of your face at the border. The system keeps track of how long you stay to ensure you don’t exceed the 90-day limit in 180 days. After you sign up, your biometric information is valid for three years. There’s no cost for signing up for EES.Since the system was fully launched, it has caused significant disruptions. Travellers have reported waiting in lines for two to three hours at major airports, and some airlines have experienced chaos, with passengers missing their flights due to the slow processing of first-time biometric registrations, which can take up to four minutes per person.Content cannot be displayed without consentOn X, a passenger, Deborah Benady, who goes by the username @Demube, shared her concerns about missing her plane after...
