Drivers face traffic chaos 'for several hours' after serious accident forces closure of major road
Drivers are being warned of traffic chaos today following a serious road incident involving three vehicles in Cumbria.
The A590 is closed in both directions between the A5087 (Ulverston) and the A5092 (Greenodd) after an accident.
Emergency services, including Cumbria Police, are in attendance, and National Highways have deployed resources to assist with traffic management.
The collision investigation is likely to take place, with the road expected to remain closed for "several hours".
Road maps from National Highways states that the traffic collision remains active and continues to impact the road.
The event is expected to clear between 6.15pm and 6.30pm later this evening, with normal traffic conditions estimated to return at a similar time.
However, this could change over the coming hours as the collision investigation continues.

In its latest update on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways: North West stated that the A590 remains closed.
It added: "Investigations are ongoing. Minimal congestion on approach. Congestion on the diversion route between Grizebeck and Kirkby-in-Furness."
National Highways has installed a diversion route for motorists to follow, allowing them to avoid the accident.
Local authority roadworks on the diversion route between Grizebeck and Kirkby-in-Furness mean there is currently a 7.5-tonne vehicle weight restriction.
