Driver is charged as cops allegedly make a surprise discovery in the back of his car after pulling him over

By MATT JONES, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 05:09, 15 April 2026 | Updated: 05:09, 15 April 2026 A driver has been charged after police allegedly discovered more than 50kg of cannabis in the back of his car.   NSW Police pulled over a 30-year-old man on the Hume Highway, at Tumblong, at about 3pm on Tuesday. The driver was given a roadside breath test which returned a negative result. But police then searched his car and allegedly found 54kg of cannabis leaf. Police will allege that a search of the vehicle uncovered five large bags in the boot containing the illegal drug. A mobile phone was also seized and will undergo forensic examination. The driver was arrested and taken to Gundagai Police Station where he was charged with supply of a prohibited drug greater than or equal to commercial quantity. He was refused bail to appear in court on Wednesday.
