DoorDash driver, 61, says rock hurled through car window could have killed her after intervening in teen street fight

By JOANNA HYNDS FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA Published: 02:47, 21 August 2026 | Updated: 02:47, 21 August 2026 A Perth grandmother working as a DoorDash delivery driver was terrified after she was attacked with rocks while trying to intervene in a street fight.  Dianne Sulman, 61, was parked in the Perth suburb of Merriwa on 19 August when she spotted a fight involving teenagers.  She tried to step in but said the teenagers turned on her, hurling rocks at her car before one large stone smashed through the rear window. 'I was shocked. I wasn't even aware that it was actually my car windscreen that broke,' she told 7NEWS. 'I thought it was something else, like a bad accident. It was that loud.  'And then when I realised what it was, I just started shaking, crying, realising what had happened.' Ms Sulman said the situation could have been much worse if the rock had struck her, adding: 'If that had hit me, it would have killed me.'  She said she contacted Western Australia police after she was made aware of a similar incident involving a Perth cyclist last month. 'About 11.25am, an unknown person allegedly threw a rock at a vehicle on Baltimore Parade, causing the rear windscreen to shatter. No injuries were reported,' they said. 'A group of juveniles was seen fleeing the area wearing dark-coloured hoodies.' Ms Sulman said she hoped the teenagers involved would 'learn from this and stop doing it'.  Her car is now off the road, leaving Ms Sulman unable to work while it is repaired. She said she was also frustrated after being told she must pay a $150 insurance excess, despite the alleged offenders being minors. Her daughter, Indahly, has since launched a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of repairing the car, describing her mother as 'the most selfless person'.  'Even in what happened yesterday, she was trying to stop a fight for the greater good. And of course it's not ended so well,' she said. 'But she runs a food pantry for people, she's a loving grandma, she's a loving mum and for this to happen it's devastating.'  WA Police said the investigation was ongoing and urged anyone with information, including CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact Crime Stoppers.
