Live coverage of Donald Trump's visit to China was brought to an abrupt halt after a "medical emergency" unfolded on-air. The alarming incident occurred during CBS' broadcast from Taiwan, as anchor Tony Dokoupil was discussing the lead-up to the Trump-Xi summit. The drama unfolded on "CBS Evening News" while Dokoupil was presenting the closing segment from Taipei. The camera began to shake as he continued speaking, before he stopped and enquired: "Is he okay? "We are going to take a quick break. We have a medical emergency here," Dokoupil said. "We are calling a doctor." Another voice could be heard off camera requesting someone to "call the doctor, please," before correspondent Matt Gutman stepped in and sent the broadcast to a commercial break. "Tonight during the final segment of CBS Evening News, our cameraman on set suffered a medical emergency," the programme said in a statement on X. "Thankfully, he's okay and recovering." CBS declined to name the camera operator or disclose what had triggered the medical emergency. Trump is currently in Beijing for a high-stakes two-day visit and is due to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. The US president's first official engagement today will be an arrival ceremony with Xi at Beijing's Great Hall of the People. The two leaders will additionally hold talks ahead of a state banquet scheduled for later this evening. Tariffs, technological rivalry, the Iran war and Taiwan are all on the agenda for the two superpowers. Trump is accompanied by technology executives, including Tesla's Elon Musk and Nvidia's Jensen Huang - prior to his arrival he stated he would urge China to "open up" to US industry.
