Donald Trump brags he'd be the 'greatest communist in history' in front of stunned Evangelical crowd

By JON MICHAEL RAASCH, WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT Published: 20:23, 26 June 2026 | Updated: 20:23, 26 June 2026 Donald Trump triumphantly returned to the hotel where the latest assassination attempt on his life occurred to disavow the growth of communism in the US to a crowd of Christians.  Speaking at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority event at the Washington Hilton - the same venue of the Washington Correspondents' Dinner shooting in April - the President condemned the Democratic Party for being co-opted by socialists.  The coalition is a group of Evangelical Christians that has supported Trump for the past decade. Trump has spoken nearly a dozen times at the annual conference, according to its organizers.  'Were going to have a more pleasant experience' this time, Trump said, noting how he knows the room very well, referring to his last trip to the Washington Hilton. During the White House Correspondents' Dinner in late April, gunman Cole Thomas Allen, 31, breached a security checkpoint with guns and knives, prompting a firefight that led to the President's evacuation.  Trump noted the rise of communism in the US and how easy it is to sell to voters.  'I think I'd be the greatest communist in history,' the President said, adding how he'd give away housing, food and more for free.  'Assassination is a big deal for them,' Trump said of the communists, standing near where he was seated during the correspondents' dinner just months before. 'All communists are Godless,' he said to the crowd of stunned Christians.   'Were going to have a more pleasant experience' this time, Trump said, noting how he knows the room very well, referring to his last trip to the Washington Hilton when a gunman fired at law enforcement causing the event to be cancelled Supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump await his remarks at an event at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's 2026 Policy Conference at the Washington Hilton Communists, Trump said, often target religion, particularly Christians.  'It's part of their deal,' the President remarked. 'They will close your churches ... they will kill your people, and that's what they're about.'  The crowd of Christians boisterously cheered as the President spoke, laughing at his jokes about becoming the greatest US communist. In a social media post published just before he came on stage, Trump wrote 'all communist countries attack religions violently.' He warned that communists, if given power, 'will close your churches, they will kill your people.'  The President's focused remarks on rising communism come on the heels of several Democratic socialist candidates sweeping elections in New York, three of whom were endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, himself a Democratic socialist.  'He's a nice guy,' Trump said of the mayor before adding that the skyscrapers across the city will soon turn into ghettos seen in the third world.  In his remarks before the evangelical crowd, Trump noted how he set up a Department of Justice task force to eradicate anti-Christian discrimination and a Department of Education directive to protect prayer in schools.  Trump called out 'nice guy' New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani when talking about communism's rise in the US He also spoke about his efforts to ban transgender athletes from women's sports, bar transgender surgeries for minors and enshrine that there are only two genders in the US.  Trump also touched on his administration's efforts to combat Islamist terrorists in Africa that have been persecuting Christian communities, mostly in Nigeria, noting how the US military has been involved in fighting the radical militants.   No comments have so far been submitted.
