US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Iran's negotiators as the two nations attempt to hammer out a lasting peace deal. The countries have been locked in conflict since February 28, when the US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on several key Iranian targets. Iran retaliated by hitting sites across the Middle East and shutting the vital Strait of Hormuz trade route . The US has implemented a blockade on Iranian ports in the strait in a bid to choke the Iranian economy, lift the closure and pressure negotiations. Pakistan has stepped in to mediate negotiations between the two sides. Despite a fragile short-term ceasefire remaining in place, no lasting peace settlement has yet been achieved . Trump took to Truth Social to reveal he had received a response to a peace proposal — and he was furious. He wrote: "I have just read the response from Iran's so-called "Representatives." I don't like it - TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP" The most recent US proposal sought to end the conflict, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and scale back Tehran's nuclear programme. It is understood that Iran's reply to the latest peace proposal sidesteps the issue of its nuclear programme entirely, concentrating instead on bringing the fighting across the Middle East to a halt. According to the IRNA news agency, Iran's counter-offer aims to guarantee the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz before entering into discussions on more divisive matters, such as Iran's nuclear programme. Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported the following points were included in Iran's counter-proposal, citing an "informed source": An end to the war on all fronts Lifting of sanctions on Tehran by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control on Iranian oil sales for a 30-day period An end to the naval blockade on Iran Iranian management of the Strait of Hormuz if "certain commitments are undertaken by the US" It is believed that these proposals would be offered in return for a 30-day nuclear talks period during which negotiations could be conducted.
