Julio Aguilar / Getty Images Share article1ANAHEIM, Calif. — After a series of hits to their starting and relief pitching, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired left-hander Eric Lauer from the Toronto Blue Jays. The move is intended to help boost the Dodgers’ pitching depth. Los Angeles is down two starting pitchers in Tyler Glasnow (back spasms) and Blake Snell (loose bodies) and placed left-handed reliever Jack Dreyer on the IL ahead of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with shoulder inflammation. Dreyer had established himself as one of the more dependable arms for the Dodgers. He’s made 20 appearances this season, posting a 2.08 ERA and a 10 strikeout-per-nine-inning rate. Imaging on the shoulder did not reveal structural damage, and the Dodgers are optimistic he’ll miss close to the minimum amount of time. Glasnow was placed on the 15-day IL on May 8. He has resumed throwing but has been limited to flat ground. Snell, who made just one start after spending the first six weeks recovering from shoulder inflammation, will undergo surgery Tuesday to address the loose bodies in his elbow. Snell’s timetable for a return depends on the type of surgery he’ll undergo, which is still being decided. There is a possibility Snell could opt for the same NanoScope procedure as Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal did, which could significantly shorten his recovery time. Lauer was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on May 11. The 30-year-old swingman was a key part of the Blue Jays postseason run, but faltered through eight games (six starts) this season. Over 36 and 1/3 innings, Lauer carded a 6.69 ERA and surrendered 11 home runs. The Dodgers will add Lauer to their major-league roster while right-hander Brusdar Graterol will be moved to the 60-day IL. Spot the pattern.
