Fife beauty spots St Andrews and Crail are in the top five with Bamburgh, in Northumberland, holding the top spot, as ranked by Which? members. St Andrews, known as the Home of Golf, was ranked number three after Tynemouth, in Tyne and Wear, while the fishing village Crail took the shared fourth spot with Alderburgh, in Sussex. The consumer group’s top 30 seaside towns and villages listing also features North Berwick, in East Lothian, Plockton, in Ross-shire, Dornoch, in Sutherland and Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull, in Argyllshire.  Dornoch Beach in Sutherland was in the top 30 Crail harbour in Fife shared fourth spot in the rankings Tobermory on the Isle of Mull was another beauty spot from Scotland on the list  But there were Scottish entries are on the Which? bottom 30 list. Visitors ranked the destinations on food and drink, tourist attractions, scenery and shopping opportunities. They also rated beaches, peace and quiet, value for money and the town’s or village’s seafront or pier. St Andrews featured strongly in most areas, but was a disappointment for anyone seeking tranquility while it was also deemed expensive. Crail lacked tourist attractions and shopping while it was ranked average in terms of its bars and restaurants and value for money. Plockton scored full marks for scenery and peace and quiet with no other categories applicable while Dornoch was given four stars out of five for both and just two for tourist attractions. The East Sands beach in St Andrews helped place the town at No 3 on the list North Berwick, on Scotland's east coast, also rated highly Plockton, in Ross-shire, is another stunning setting Tobermory, meanwhile, got full marks for its seafront/pier and scenery, four stars for attractions and three for the rest of the applicable categories. Which? surveyed over 5,300 people about their experiences of UK seaside destinations in the last year Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel said: ‘The North East [of England] has emerged as this year’s favourite seaside spot, a reflection of its outstanding beaches and the fact that holidays here can be fantastic value for money. ‘It also shows that there are special seaside towns in every corner of the UK. From Swanage to Plockton, Southwold to Conwy, you’ll have a great time in many of the country’s lesser-known destinations, and should save some money too. ‘Whether you’re returning to a much-loved seaside town or discovering a hidden gem, there’s something for everyone.’
