Trolls bullying Madeleine McCann's family online have been told to "be kinder" in a poignant plea. Tormentors have targeted Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate, 19 years on from the girl's disappearance during a family holiday on the Algarve, Portugal . The couple, though, have remained defiant, insisting they will " never give up" in the hunt for Madeleine who now would be 22. They attended a prayer vigil with their other children, who are twins, this week. Trolls, however, continue to hector the couple online for leaving the kids alone in their holiday apartment while they dined with friends just a few metres away in May 2007. But the trolls have been blasted today. Jane Moore, a journalist and columnist, said: "There can’t be a day goes by when they don’t think of their daughter, forever frozen in their minds at just three years old, and wonder where the hell she is... So a memo to the McCann trolls: Be kinder. They’re already in hell without you piling on the agony." It is believed Madeleine's sister — asleep in her cot at the time — doesn’t remember her, other than memories crafted through family recollections and photos. She and her twin, now aged 21, joined their parents for the vigil in Leicestershire to mark the solemn anniversary. Despite the vile abuse online, the family said in a joint statement this week: "The search goes on to find her, to achieve some justice, to make the world that bit safer." Police, meanwhile, have been investigating the Madeleine McCann case for half a year in an effort to charge Christian Brueckner in the UK, according to a source. It is understood they have officially requested evidence from the German police after Brueckner, who has always denied any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance, was released from prison last September. They are said to believe they can build a strong enough case for the Crown Prosecution Service to authorise charges before the 20th anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance next year. The German constitution, though, prevents the extradition of its citizens to non-EU countries, meaning that unless he goes abroad, Brueckner will not be sent to the UK for trial. He denies having anything to do with the disappearance. Amid these new developments, the trolls are in the minority. Yet, writing for The Sun , Loose Women regular Jane said: "It’s an unconscionable nightmare you wouldn’t wish on anyone." The columnist referred to others cases of missing children, including that of Ben Needham who went missing in Greece in 1991.
